Reducing Integration Risks with Sage Intacct Integrations are complicated and have way too many moving parts. But that doesn’t mean that they can’t be done. Most modern-day systems recognize the need for integrating into other critical applications and have built their solutions to handle this need. If you are running a legacy ERP product, chances are integrations are really an import/export of files.   Need to find the best integration solution for each part of your business? Getting employees onboard for the digital transformation journey Most, if not all, businesses understand that they need to embrace digital transformation, but don't understand how to go about it. What are the specific steps businesses need to take? In the next few weeks, Menlo Technologies will talk about those steps, starting with tips for preparing your team.     Testing Mobile Apps with a Mobile Device Cloud The problem: Apps need to be tested on a massive variety of mobile devices  Market demand for mobile app development services continues to grow, and today’s users expect the highest quality user experience. They demand the most efficient, effective and secure methods for their mobile app development processes, including mobile app testing. To ensure their mobile apps perform reliably for every user, businesses need to test on key variations of the burgeoning variety of mobile devices. Amazon AWS vs. Microsft Azure in 2018: a quick cloud comparison Cloud computing in 2018 Cloud computing has become more than a significant trend. It is the new normal and for good reason. The many benefits offered by the cloud have made it an irresistible choice for businesses. Microsoft’s Azure and Amazon’s AWS cloud platforms are the top choices when it comes to enterprise-level IaaS. Microsoft’s Azure and Amazon’s AWS: Take a quick look at the comparison Menlo CEO Gary Prioste at Microsoft Inspire Worldwide Partner Conference Menlo Technologies is a proud member of the Microsoft Partner Network that serves more than 430,000 businesses with more than 160 million mutual customers worldwide. The company wanted to leverage sensor device data to monitor various kinds of indicators such as cracks, temperature, icing, scouring, wind speed and load on bridges across the U.S. and Canada.   Menlo Technologies implemented a Microsoft Azure based architecture to capture the device data synchronously which provided the dashboards required to archive the data.         Renesas Electronics America - Dell Boomi Renesas Electronics America (REA) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Renesas Electronics Corporation. The Japan-based semiconductor manufacturer is the world’s largest manufacturer of microcontrollers and the second largest manufacturer of application processors. REA had an on-premises, legacy integration system that required a tedious manual process of custom coding by an on-site expert which was costly and unnecessarily complicated. 27 racks of servers had accumulated through years of mergers and acquisitions, and the Director of IT chose to move to the cloud rather than continuing to manage a data center.    Lab Tracking Mobile Application Inform Diagnostics wanted to create a mobile application to provide real-time case status regarding specimens sent to its labs.  Over the course of 12 weeks, Quisitive and Inform Diagnostics worked elbow-to-elbow to develop, test and launch the Inform Diagnostics mobile app. The app is the first of its kind to bring these key features to the market, giving Inform Diagnostics’ clients 24/7 self-service for critical functions. Benefits:  Improve the accuracy of patient information Reduce billing and insurance errors Facilitate direct messaging and escalation from physicians and clinical staff to sales reps and customer service Reduce the cost of picking up specimens by enabling clients to cancel unneeded courier pickups EyeBook Now Solution When COVID-19 emerged and closed eye care locations around the world, Essilor knew that processes and procedures would need to change once countries started reopening. They saw this as an opportunity to make a positive change in the face of uncertainty brought on by the global pandemic. To reopen doctor’s offices safely, new practices were required in markets where customers and doctors alike were unaccustomed to these types of protocols. Essilor knew that it needed to act quickly to address this. To do so, they turned to Quisitive.  It was critical that this project accomplish two things. First, it needed to enable eye care professionals to easily schedule and administer appointments online. For some practices, this meant evolving from using sticky notes and notepads to an online interface, so the tool needed to be intuitive and streamlined. The second piece was for customers who weren’t accustomed to needing to schedule an appointment to see an eye care provider. This is now handled both with an online app and via a QR code placed at the entryways of eye care providers. Customers scan the code which enters them into a queue and alerts them as to when they’re able to be seen by a doctor. Both of these elements meant that a change needed to occur that went beyond technology — the app needed to help facilitate a true shift in both provider and customer behavior. On top of these required outcomes, the apps needed to be up and running in a matter of weeks, as the EyeBookNow application was a catalyst to enable eye care providers to reopen, and Essilor needed to be ready when locations began reopening efforts.  Reviews 4.9 15 reviews Submit Review Sort by Relevance Most Recent Rating: high to low Rating: low to high $200,000 to $999,999 (2) $50,000 to $199,999 (5) Confidential (5) $1,000,000 - $9,999,999 (1) $10,000 to $49,999 (2) Mobile App Development (7) Web Development (2) Custom Software Development (2) Managed IT Services (2) E-commerce Development (1) Development (1) Cloud Consulting (1) Phone Interview (9) Online Review (6) Apply Clear all Mobile App Development Web Development Jun 12, 2020 the project Web & Android Dev for Transportation Logistics Tracker “Their communication was refreshing." Verified the review Background Challenge Solution Results Ratings A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript. BACKGROUND Introduce your business and what you do there. Atech Logistics is a third-party trucking company. We’re in the dedicated delivery pace, we have a couple of divisions that handle LTL and truckload operations. I’m a business analyst. OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE What challenge were you trying to address with Menlo Technologies? A large segment of our business is in this dedicated contract carriage space, and we’re the delivery arm for a lot of our customers. We needed to track out assets, personnel, and all of our shipments, in real-time across the distribution centers we have around the country. This application would allow us to track the pieces and shipments that are being delivered on a nightly basis. We can also track the drivers and how they’re progressing on these routes. SOLUTION What was the scope of their involvement? We had an existing platform that did some of the same things but needed to be enhanced. We had a starting point, but they built a web app and a mobile app from the ground up.  The deliverables included a web application that allows internal tech personnel and customers to log in and view the status of individual shipments. There, they can track the progress of drivers along the route, which improved visibility for the supply chain. Coupled with an Android mobile app that allows drivers to scan shipments at the point of delivery and interface with the web app. This lets us know there are any exceptions. The database on the backend is a SQL database. What is the team composition? I interfaced with a few of their teammates from their support team in Menlo, California.  I also worked with their development team in India as well.  I think we had 7–8 developers, a project manager, and a liaison. How did you come to work with Menlo Technologies? I found them on Clutch. We sent out a few RFPs to companies listed on the Clutch site. Going through the process, they understood what the project would entail, were competitive on their price, and we had a good initial discussion. How much have you invested with them? We’ve spent about $200,000. What is the status of this engagement? The project started in March 2019 and it’s ongoing. RESULTS & FEEDBACK What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?  They were able to deliver on everything and their work is functioning well. It was pretty easy to measure if it was working or not because it was either up to the specs or things needed to be changed. If there were fixes or changes that needed to be made, they were quick to resolve all the underlying issues. Throughout the sprint process, they took some of our ideas, and we would review it at the end. How did Menlo Technologies perform from a project management standpoint? Our main communication was through Basecamp. For UI, we used Zepplin. They would push different screens, we would approve them and provide notes. We also held Zoom meetings, test live over the phone, and meet with the development team. There are always going to be hiccups, but they were upfront with those. There were no big surprises. What did you find most impressive about them? Their communication was refreshing. While working on an earlier version with another company, it was much harder to get ahold of them to have a conversation. Menlo Technologies, on the other hand, was very responsive.   Are there any areas they could improve? Not so much, if we were to change anything, it would be on our end. Do you have any advice for potential customers? We should have done a better job specifying what the deliverables would entail. If we were going to do it again, we would plan more because the devil is in the details. The more specific your instructions are, the faster the turnaround time, and they’ll be more likely to deliver what you’re looking for. 5.0 Overall Score 4.5 Scheduling ON TIME / DEADLINES 5.0 Cost Value / within estimates 5.0 Quality Service & deliverables 5.0 NPS Willing to refer Mobile App Development Jul 25, 2018 the project React Native Dev for Social Media Community Platform "They do what needs to be done, do it well, and do it fast." BACKGROUND Introduce your business and what you do there. I'm the head of product for Kudos&Co. We create a safety-first social media community, primarily for kids under 13. OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE What challenge were you trying to address with Menlo Technologies? We needed to rewrite an existing mobile application because we’d originally written it on a cross-platform development environment that was no longer working. SOLUTION What was the scope of their involvement? We spent several months talking with the team at Menlo Technologies to figure out which of their options made the most sense for us. We decided to redo the entire app in the React Native environment, so they’re providing us with two React Native developers. One developer specializes in iOS and the other on Android. They duplicated the existing functionality and design by using the original app as a template. We had design meetings with Menlo Technologies to discuss how to adapt the UI for new features. They’ve added a feature to the app to support video. They're working on adding a Paint feature with filters and stickers. They also plan to add augmented reality masks. What is the team composition? My primary contact is their VP and head of technology. We’ve contracted with two React Native developers. How did you come to work with Menlo Technologies? We were introduced to Menlo Technologies by one of our advisors, who had an existing relationship with their owner. How much have you invested with them? We've budgeted for an annual contract of $240,000. What is the status of this engagement? The project began in April 2018 and they’re providing ongoing development work. RESULTS & FEEDBACK What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? As a startup, we have a very small development capacity. They helped us get our new product out quickly. The app is very popular with its user market. The kids who use it, love it. How did Menlo Technologies perform from a project management standpoint? I'm managing the project. I want the developers to be part of our team even though they’re based in Uruguay. They participate in our daily stand-up meeting. They’re members of our Slack groups, and we use Jira as an administrative tool. If we need a longer meeting, we use Zoom for video calls. They also came to our California office for a couple of weeks. They’re amazing at addressing problems and making fixes. If I send them a bug list, the bugs are gone by the next day. What did you find most impressive about them? The team is patient and efficient. They’re extremely committed and capable. They put a lot of time, energy, and passion into their work, which makes them good team members. They're fun to work with because they have a good sense of humor and no drama. They do what needs to be done, do it well, and do it fast. They're awesome. Any advice for potential customers? Trust the advice you get from their management. They're a well-managed, professional organization with a lot of expert assets they can provide. They're willing to spend a lot of time upfront to help you find the right solution that’s a good match with their resources. 5.0 Overall Score Working with them has been an extraordinary experience. 5.0 Scheduling ON TIME / DEADLINES They’re always right on schedule. 5.0 Cost Value / within estimates They provide high-end developers for a reasonable cost. 5.0 Quality Service & deliverables They’re knowledgeable in terms of code and bugs. 5.0 NPS Willing to refer I would absolutely recommend them. Verified the review Background Challenge Solution Results Ratings The client submitted this review online. BACKGROUND Introduce your business and what you do there. We're the 4th largest US translation agency offering localization services. I am the senior manager of globalization technology strategies. I am responsible for deployments to enterprise clients of any software or customizations relating translations. OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE What challenge were you trying to address with Menlo Technologies? We had a customer who was looking for us to develop a Java-based cloud application for their resellers. It needed to aggregate a number of terms which needed translation, allowing users to vote on translations. Depending on the reliability of the translator, the reseller would make the decision of finalizing the term.  SOLUTION What was the scope of their involvement? Menlo Technologies developed our software using Java, with a MySQL database customized to our specs. LDAP was used for user management. How did you come to work with Menlo Technologies? We had a previous relationship with Menlo Technologies' chief executive officer, who used to work for our company. Menlo Technologies was a natural fit. They had a very strong development arm and good knowledge of the software they’d be working with. How much have you invested with Menlo Technologies? The cost of our initial deployment was between $40,000 and $45,000. We have been building enhancements to it, amounting to around $20,000 per year, for each subsequent year. This includes support and maintenance. We have customers who need specific reports and enhancements. What is the status of this engagement? Our work with Menlo Technologies began 6 years ago. The first iteration was released at that time, and it's still being used by enterprise clients. Menlo Technologies is continuing to support the software and make enhancements to it. RESULTS & FEEDBACK Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement? Our internal metrics were test cases which the software needed to pass. There is no such thing as having no bugs at all, but all the critical issues which we needed to fix in order to roll out were taken care of in a timely fashion. A part of the reason for getting additional translation business is that our software is strong and reliable. It increased our standing with customers relative to competitors. How did Menlo Technologies perform from a project management standpoint? Menlo Technologies always met deliverable deadlines, even working over the weekend for this purpose. We had weekly report meetings, and if Menlo Technologies identified something as being a risk, they called it out immediately. What did you find most impressive about Menlo Technologies? Menlo Technologies is very good at participating in spec designs with us. It's one thing to work with someone who takes specifications and develops code, but with Menlo Technologies, we have a trusted consultant which we can use in order to find more efficient approaches for our projects. The productive discussions we've had with Menlo Technologies have made our specs better and ultimately improved the software. Are there any areas Menlo Technologies could improve? No. Menlo Technologies has even assigned a vice president of delivery for our company, so we always had an escalation path. 5.0 Overall Score We've recently used Menlo Technologies on a project for an enterprise client. They managed to pull off a piece of software within an extremely aggressive schedule. 5.0 Scheduling ON TIME / DEADLINES 5.0 Cost Value / within estimates One of the reasons for continuing to work with Menlo Technologies is that they've been cost-effective, and continue to do so. 4.5 Quality Service & deliverables I wouldn't rate anyone a perfect 5. 5.0 NPS Willing to refer I've recommended Menlo Technologies to other companies. OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE What challenge were you trying to address with Menlo Technologies? We needed to supplement development resources. We have our own staff and wanted to extend it. SOLUTION What was the scope of their involvement? Menlo Technologies has assisted us with some development projects, primarily for iOS and Android apps. Menlo Technologies has provided additional development resources, and didn't have an architectural involvement. Menlo Technologies has also performed some platform data services work for our company, as an extension of our existing system. How did you come to work with Menlo Technologies? We found Menlo Technologies through a referral from an organization which had previously used them, and had had good success. How much have you invested with Menlo Technologies? This is confidential. What is the status of this engagement? We started working with Menlo Technologies more than 2 years ago, and have an ongoing relationship. RESULTS & FEEDBACK Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement? We've been pleased with Menlo Technologies' process of assigning a lead project manager with a strong technical and management background as our primary point of call. We are able to distribute the work, and we're pleased with the results. How did Menlo Technologies perform from a project management standpoint? We use collaboration tools, and Menlo Technologies has been good at keeping updates. There have been some projects with tough timelines, but Menlo Technologies went above and beyond for them. We've overcome the time difference between our organizations, so I've been very pleased. What did you find most impressive about Menlo Technologies? I like the management attention that Menlo Technologies has offered us, not just through their project manager, but also at an executive management level. Whenever anything derailed, Menlo Technologies was quick to get it back on track, keeping an eye on the work both onshore and offshore. Are there any areas Menlo Technologies could improve? I've been working in IT for over 30 years and found that it's not realistic to expect things to come back perfect the first time. BACKGROUND Introduce your business and what you do there. We are a mobile recommendations service similar to Yelp. I am the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the company. OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE What challenge were you trying to address with Menlo Technologies? We needed help building our platform. SOLUTION What was the scope of their involvement? Menlo Technologies helped our company build the frontend and backend of our iOS app. We have a team of UI [User Inteface] designers who provided Menlo Technologies with screenshots for every component and asset needed within our app. Menlo Technologies' team converts those into the correct sizes, creates navigation bars, buttons, and all other frontend elements. Menlo Technologies, together with our team, also handled all backend server-side elements of the software. How did you come to work with Menlo Technologies? We interviewed 25 different agencies across the country. Menlo Technologies had the best qualifications for the tech stack that we were using, namely Node.js, Swift and a MongoDB database. How much have you invested with Menlo Technologies? This is confidential. What is the status of this engagement? We started working with Menlo Technologies in mid-July 2016, and are currently working on the Android version of our app. RESULTS & FEEDBACK Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement? We're currently beta-testing the iOS version of our app, and it works amazingly. Menlo Technologies has a QA team which takes care of any bug or quality problem, working alongside our team. Everything has worked well, and Menlo Technologies will usually fix any bug within 24 hours free of charge, as per our contract. How did Menlo Technologies perform from a project management standpoint? We have bi-weekly check-ins on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Menlo Technologies gave us real-time feedback on how things are going, and what can or can't be done. They are always within hours of their estimates, and meet deadlines on 95% of cases. We have a slack channel, and also use Basecamp and Jira, which is an amazing tool. What distinguishes Menlo Technologies from other providers? Menlo Technologies offered very personalized attention to us. Their vice president of delivery is one of our contacts, and takes part in all of our check-in calls. We've spoken with Menlo Technologies' CEO on a couple of occasions, and their general manager has also been present during communications. Our project manager from Menlo Technologies went to college in the US, and has a fantastic English level. He also used to work for AOL, and has a background in consumer technology. Is there anything Menlo Technologies could have improved or done differently? Any improvements are 2-sided, and we should also be more upfront in asking for features. 5.0 Overall Score It's been great working with our local team, and having Menlo Technologies as an extension. 4.5 Scheduling ON TIME / DEADLINES 5.0 Cost Value / within estimates Menlo Technologies has been great at estimating costs. 5.0 Quality Service & deliverables 5.0 NPS Willing to refer I have recommended them. BACKGROUND Introduce your business and what you do there. Our company gathers pay compensations information and board issues for public institutions. We perform analytics and sell that information through a software-as-a-service platform. Our company has been in business for 16 years. I am the Vice President of Products and Technology. I head engineering, product management and IT for the company. OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE What challenge were you trying to address with Menlo Technologies? We have been using Menlo Technologies for a long time, so I'm not sure what the original challenge was, but it was definitely related to further leveraging our budget on the development front. We were able to get people of equal capabilities for a lower rate than the local one. SOLUTION What was the scope of their involvement? We have 4 distinct product areas, and Menlo Technologies is involved in each of them. We assign a tech lead as the manager of the engineering team, as well as a local product manager. They determine what will occur within each development cycle, as well as individual tasks, and who will be assigned to each one of them. As much as half of our team is comprised of offshore developers and QA resources. Depending on the development type, we will assign tasks to the most well-equipped technical leads. Menlo Technologies has provided technical resources across a variety of projects. At any given time, we've used up to 33 resources from Menlo Technologies. How did you come to work with Menlo Technologies? I wasn't working with the company at that time. How much have you invested with Menlo Technologies? The cost of Menlo Technologies' services is within the millions of dollars range. What is the status of this engagement? We have an ongoing relationship with Menlo Technologies. RESULTS & FEEDBACK Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement? We've been very happy with Menlo Technologies' work, given that we've engaged them for so many years. We don't have to spend a lot of time getting them up-to-speed on certain projects because many of the developers have been working with us for a long time. Tracking performance metrics was a very subjective process when I first came onboard, so I spent a year putting together strict criteria for tracking how the work was being accomplished. Menlo Technologies has told us that we're by far their most advanced client in this regard, so much so that they've started implementing these methods with some of their other projects. We specifically keep a close eye on how many items are assigned to particular engineers, how long it takes them to finish tasks, as well as what they're quality of code is, measured in bug counts. Every once in a while, we have had to dig in deeper during code reviews, but I've been generally happy and found that Menlo Technologies is almost as critical as us during this process. How did Menlo Technologies perform from a project management standpoint? We have a few methods in place to address working remotely with Menlo Technologies' team. We use a Slack channel and have a dedicated project manager on-site. Given the fact that we've worked through distinct sprint cycles, and Menlo Technologies' is given specific assignments and due dates, we tend to be okay. What did you find most impressive about Menlo Technologies? Since we've been working with Menlo Technologies for a long time, the inherent knowledge they have with our systems has helped a lot. If we ever need to add additional resources, Menlo Technologies can provide the training. Swapping resources at will without losing a serious amount of time is a unique advantage. Are there any areas Menlo Technologies could improve? Menlo Technologies tended to be a little less critical in terms of code quality than our team. Like many offshore service providers, Menlo Technologies has usually done what we specified, and nothing more, rarely questioning what is being done. I can understand this since Menlo Technologies wasn't involved in the design, but it would be nice to have pushback when something doesn't make sense. On a couple of occasions, something wasn't on-spec and wasn't caught, which was a little concerning. Tightening up those areas, and providing more resources able to think outside the box would be an improvement and aid for our team.  Another company I've used actually sent one person back-and-forth between sites, getting an idea of the culture and vibe at the client's location, and transferring that offshore. This helped tighten up the teams. When I brought this up to Menlo Technologies, they were willing to do it but wanted to triple the cost for that person. They did hire a senior person for this, but he only visits us about once a month. 4.5 Overall Score One of the big challenges in working with offshore teams is the gap in communication. 5.0 Scheduling ON TIME / DEADLINES Menlo Technologies is good in this regard. 5.0 Cost Value / within estimates 4.0 Quality Service & deliverables 5.0 NPS Willing to refer I have recommended them. BACKGROUND Introduce your business and what you do there. The company is a semiconductor manufacturer. I am the Senior Manager and IT department administrator for the company. I am responsible for business processes and applications. OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE What challenge were you trying to address with Menlo Technologies? Menlo Technologies has been our go-to IT source for quite a while. SOLUTION What was the scope of their involvement? Menlo Technologies has provided consultation for technical challenges in our applications area. One of the main projects on which Menlo Technologies worked was development for a revenue forecasting application for our sales team, which was presented with some decision-support information like open orders, sales forecasts, histories of sales, etc. The sales people needed to enter what they believed to be the forecast for the upcoming 15 months. The application required a .NET user interface, as well as bringing in data from various sources and normalizing it. It was intended to be used by various sales professionals across the US and Canada. How did you come to work with Menlo Technologies? Menlo Technologies was put in place by our previous IT director, so I was not involved in the selection process. How much have you invested with Menlo Technologies? I don't have this information. What is the status of this engagement? We have an ongoing retainer with Menlo Technologies for support, mainly offshore. The same team also handles development on some of our projects. RESULTS & FEEDBACK Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement? Menlo Technologies worked with our own team, providing solutions which hadn't existed before. Our revenue forecast application replaced work being done through manual spreadsheets, with many different rules, and in a chaotic manner. Menlo Technologies enhanced the monthly revenue forecasting process to a point of being completely reliable. The time savings have been huge, amounting to several man-months per year. We no longer need to keep our sales people occupied with data collection and consolidation. How did Menlo Technologies perform from a project management standpoint? We have not had any issues with Menlo Technologies in this respect. Whenever we were presented with new staff on Menlo Technologies' team, their skills were as-advertised. This can sometimes be an issue with consulting firms, but Menlo Technologies has vetted its resources properly. We've worked together through a partnership, rather than using them as hired bodies, and I've appreciated Menlo Technologies' ability to give suggestions and offer different solutions. What did you find most impressive about Menlo Technologies? Base on my experience, Menlo Technologies' dedication to getting the job done has been unique. We have an offshore delivery manager working part-time with our team. He's been very effective and saved us a lot of mental energy and time by making sure that our teams are working with each other. This was problematic, given that we're on opposite sides of the Earth. We've had minimal turnover on Menlo Technologies' staff, and they always planned out transitions as to not make them my problem. Are there any areas Menlo Technologies could improve? We're considering acquiring some apps and cloud solutions. As with any other company, we've looked towards less building and more buying, so we've turned to quick solutions from cloud providers, and haven't interacted with Menlo Technologies on this area. I'm not sure how a transition like this would fit within our consulting model. 4.5 Overall Score 5.0 Scheduling ON TIME / DEADLINES 5.0 Cost Value / within estimates 4.0 Quality Service & deliverables 5.0 NPS Willing to refer Custom Software Development May 1, 2020 the project Development for Architecture Publication “So far, everything has been close to perfect.” Custom Software Development $50,000 to $199,999 Nov. 2019 - Ongoing see more 5.0 Quality: 5.0 Schedule: 5.0 Cost: 5.0 Willing to refer: 5.0 The Project $50,000 to $199,999 Nov 2019 - Ongoing Project summary: Menlo Technologies helped their partners expand into new verticals by developing a new platform. BACKGROUND Introduce your business and what you do there. I’m the CEO and founder of The Franklin Report. We’re known to be the Michelin Guide for a wide range of residential services such as: architecture, interior design, contracting, and plumbing in five major cities. OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE What challenge were you trying to address with Menlo Technologies? We are massively expanding into a new vertical market. We knew we needed to upgrade our technology team. SOLUTION What was the scope of their involvement? So far, they’ve built about 20% of our new business. We were very specific in regards to our roadmap and wireframes, but they took full control of our tech stack, and made excellent improvements, and did so thoughtfully, effectively and efficiently. What is the team composition? They have a frontend team in the US and a backend team in India. Garrett (Project Manager) is extraordinary at taking what’s in my head and communicating it to the rest of the team abroad. We also work with Dave (VP, Global Engineering & Delivery) and he has been exceptional at working through any hurdles; nothing is unsolvable to Dave. Paul (VP) on the business side has been terrific at understanding the financial ramifications and the big picture. And, quite importantly, Srinivas (Manager) is the day-to-day project manager in India who has been clear, helpful, skillful, responsive, thoughtful and, so far, on time and on budget! And the rest of the team in India (go Riaz) has been outstanding at making our vision become a reality as well.   How did you come to work with Menlo Technologies? We found them on Clutch and they got back to us much faster and way more professionally than other companies we contacted. And their references were impeccable. How much have you invested with them? We’ve spent about $80,000. What is the status of this engagement? We started working together in November 2019 and the project is ongoing. RESULTS & FEEDBACK What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?  We are still in stealth mode, just starting the alpha testing. So far, everything has been close to perfect. How did Menlo Technologies perform from a project management standpoint? They use Basecamp. It has been excellent for us. They also respond immediately to us through their well-developed 2-week sprints with any necessary communications posted on Basecamp; thus, I can easily edit what is being implemented in the code. What did you find most impressive about them? The four team members mentioned above really deserve a shout out. They’re extraordinary talents. The domestic/abroad interface really makes them very unique. Their responsiveness to feedback also distinguishes them. If I have changes, they’re very gracious about working it into the project. Are there any areas they could improve? They don’t have a single thing that needs to be improved. Do you have any advice for potential customers? BACKGROUND Introduce your business and what you do there. I’m the CTO of a community automotive marketplace primarily for performance aftermarket parts. Auto enthusiasts can come to our platform to chat, find parts information, or shop our e-commerce platform, where users can upgrade their rides. They can also upload photos there. OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE What challenge were you trying to address with Menlo Technologies? We were building out our e-commerce platform. At that point, we had a prototype but needed to scale it. So, we brought on Menlo Technologies to increase our engineering resources as part of that effort. SOLUTION What was the scope of their involvement? There have been several phases to our work with them. One challenge is that there are hundreds of thousands of parts available in our industry. We needed a system to efficiently take them from manufacturers and load them into our online catalog. The first part of our engagement was building out that technology.  From there, were quickly merged into building out our website further. In doing so, we added more features and enhanced the features we already had on the online catalog and community website. In terms of technologies, it’s an AWS site using Node, MongoDB, Lambda, and elastic search in our development efforts. What is the team composition? It’s changed over time based on our needs, but I think we had about eight engineering resources on the project at its peak. Paul (VP, Menlo Technologies) was my main point of contact. How did you come to work with Menlo Technologies? After considerable online research and referrals from friends, we went through a pretty extensive vetting process. That included a series of deep technical interviews with executives and architects. In that process, we discovered that Menlo Technologies was the most technically savvy and fit our team best. They were also elastic—when we needed more or less from them, they could accommodate. What is the status of this engagement? The project started in May 2019 and is ongoing. RESULTS & FEEDBACK What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? We’re in a high growth phase right now, so everyone involved has to drive success. The work they’ve been able to provide at their price point had generated an enormous impact. They executed very well, so we were able to launch a significant number of new features to the store. We’re a successful e-commerce store as a result of all the work they were doing. They were able to get the job done very efficiently, deeply integrated into all aspects of the site. That isn’t to say that another dev shop wouldn’t be capable of a similar job, but they’ve been a key partner. User feedback has been phenomenal. The older product that it replaced was a few years old. This version is faster and looks better to those using it. We’re truly on a fantastic trajectory.  How did Menlo Technologies perform from a project management standpoint? Consistently, they’ve been able to deliver on time and within the budget. The team is flexible, working in any style we need. We decided quickly on an agile development style and workflow, and they were very responsive while working that way. Our teams use Slack to collaborate. They’ve been very communicative in that, too. Because of all this, we’re able to ask them for their product and tech opinions and build collaboratively.   What did you find most impressive about them? Their flexibility with their resources was a huge key to our success. Additionally, they had the technological expertise in our main areas of focus. The technical staff is bright, quick, and not egotistical, which is a big asset. They come to us with opinions and designs that alter with new information. Their goal is to build the products we want, not to stick to philosophies. So, they have opinions, but not dogmas in the workplace. They also have a global footprint. With that, we’re able to acquire staffing across the globe and in many timezones. That’s been a huge workflow advantage. Are there any areas they could improve? We’re really happy with them. They could strive for even more depth in their technological expertise, but they’re doing quite well with that already. Since I’m part of a startup, developments can always be cheaper, but I’m certainly not unhappy with the price either. Do you have any advice for potential customers? Do primary research to understand their skills and how you can best use them to fill competency gaps on your end. For companies with strong project management, don’t engage them for it. The reverse is also true. Similarly with architecture, if you don’t have internal professionals in that area, you’ll need to utilize their resources. Because we did the upfront research and vetting, we were able to align our resources with them almost instantly. I’d recommend doing the same. 5.0 Overall Score They were extremely flexible. 5.0 Scheduling ON TIME / DEADLINES They push hard to meet timelines. BACKGROUND Introduce your business and what you do there. I’m the director of a venture capital firm. OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE What challenge were you trying to address with Menlo Technologies? We were looking to build a web app for our external stakeholders. SOLUTION What was the scope of their involvement? Originally, I had a briefing call with them to identify our intended goals. Then, they wrote up a proposal, and we found alignment on the project together. About a week after they delivered the contract, they signed a project manager, designer, and lead developer to me. They worked for the next few months to build the app using React, hosting it on Microsoft Azure.  The final product provides a catalog of companies in our portfolio for stakeholders to view and examine. What is the team composition? In total, there were about seven teammates. This included a lead developer assigned to us, a 2–3 member development team, a sales account executive, head of development, and a project manager.  How did you come to work with Menlo Technologies? I found them through an online search. We decided they’d be right for the job based on their flexibility with our timeline and budget. How much have you invested with them? We spent about $55,000 with them. What is the status of this engagement? The project lasted from July–October 2018. RESULTS & FEEDBACK What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? The project is operational, and the app is live. It’s functioning properly, without very many bugs. I would define that as successful because we were able to build what we intended.  How did Menlo Technologies perform from a project management standpoint? They performed excellently, responsive and communicative throughout. Our teams used Basecamp, but if there were ever issues, they were happy to jump on a call. We also had weekly standup meetings and were in contact multiple times each week. What did you find most impressive about them? Their development team worked quickly and was always responsive. They were always easy to get ahold of, which is very important in a project like this. Are there any areas they could improve? The design was limited due to our budget, but they could have been a bit more creative on the design end of the app. 5.0 Overall Score 5.0 Scheduling ON TIME / DEADLINES 4.5 Cost Value / within estimates We spent a little more than I intended at the beginning of the project. 5.0 Quality Service & deliverables They met objectives and delivered a fully-functioning app. 5.0 NPS Willing to refer 1 2 next last © 2022 Clutch Terms of Service Privacy We updated our Terms of Service on August 4, 2022. Verified the review Background Challenge Solution Results Ratings A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript. BACKGROUND Introduce your business and what you do there. I’m a director at Ceridian, a cloud platform. OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE What challenge were you trying to address with Zazz? We were hosting a new service for one of our businesses. It was on Microsoft Azure, and we wanted to migrate it to AWS. We needed DevOps consultation on how this migration could have been taken care of without affecting any of our current users, and we also needed to follow industry standards for maintaining the various services in different locations. SOLUTION What was the scope of their involvement? Zazz came in as an extension of our in-house team to add support to what we were doing. They provide us with hosting technical support for cloud infrastructure, mainly focused on DevOps consulting, cloud migration infrastructure automation, and continuous integration and delivery of pipelines. What is the team composition? We work with around 8–9 engineers from Zazz. There is a senior technical lead, a senior technical project manager, and a business analyst who takes care of all our requirements and analyzes them into the user stories. I’m the person directly involved with their senior-level team. How did you come to work with Zazz? Initially, we were looking for vendors in Seattle and other near locations. We had multiple rounds of meetings with other companies and vendors, and we shortlisted Zazz. We left an inquiry on their website and they got back to us with a solution. We had multiple rounds of initial interactions with their sales director of operations and the engineering team executive officers. The main aspect we liked about them was their technical expertise. They had a very solid understanding of what we wanted and of cloud infrastructure migrations. What is the status of this engagement? We started working together in January 2021, and the engagement is ongoing. RESULTS & FEEDBACK What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? We’ve completed the MVP, and it’s live. Now, Zazz is working on the last sprint — the migration was really successful. All our other team members and stakeholders are happy with their work. How did Zazz perform from a project management standpoint? Zazz’s project management is good — we don’t have to follow up with them, and they're always very accurate. They have a couple of dedicated senior technical project managers and a business analyst who gets in touch with our team. We have status calls, and they give us daily updates. They're organized, and we use Slack for communication. For continuous integration, we leveraged Bitbucket and Atlassian. For bug tracking, we use Jira, and we gave them access to our company’s account. What did you find most impressive about them? The way that Zazz comes back with solutions is pretty impressive. We're typically focusing on user engagement and user retention while they're helping us with the technology that we needed to incorporate into our business. Whatever issue we've had, they have a solution for it, and it works out well. One of the things that we like the most about them is the technical expertise from their tech leads. Are there any areas they could improve? There’s nothing Zazz could improve on — I haven’t faced any issues with them. Do you have any advice for potential customers? Zazz’s services are a little expensive, but at the end of the day, the services they provide are worth it. 5.0 Overall Score 5.0 Scheduling ON TIME / DEADLINES They follow up with us constantly. BACKGROUND Introduce your business and what you do there. We provide technology solutions to organizations, primarily within the thoroughbred industry. I am the president of the organization.
